I am going to rant in this news story as I feel it’s so absurd! It has been confirmed by Disney, that Star Trek director J.J. Abrams will direct the next Star Wars film (Episode VII). This news comes while Star Trek Into Darkness is in post-production, to be released May 17, 2013.
COMMENTARY: This sounds like the most idiotic movie news we have ever heard. It just doesn’t seem right for some reason. Star Trek and Star Wars are both great franchises (..yes, both equally as good), but it seems like J.J. Abrams in many ways is betraying Star Trek. Why? Appearance is everything. He takes the helm of Star Wars while still under contract to produce Star Trek. It seems like those two franchises are intermingling. The best analogy would be that you have a restaurant, and you hire a worker who turns out to be good, then they quit on you when a new restaurant opens up next door!! Also, Paramount did confirm that J.J. Abrams will take a producer role on the 3rd film, which will be released in 2015 or 2016….imagine this…Star Wars and Star Trek both coming out in 2015? Would you like to see these franchises competing like this? I don’t. It is often said that Star Wars is better than Star Trek…I wonder if George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy picked J.J. Abrams on purpose. They saw that Star Trek (2009) did well, so they want to steal the thunder from Star Trek, and no better way to do that than to steal the director. That is how I see it. This is a clear choice that was made on purpose. They didn’t like seeing Star Trek doing well, so they want to try to out do Star Trek since the last 3 Star Wars films were absolutely horrible with too much CGI. You know I am right. It looked like the actors were on the set of the Weather Channel with the green screen and all. Horrific in the cartoonish look the cinematography had! Star Wars Episode I, II, and III were absolute garbage. The only aspects which made those films half interesting was Yoda and Darth Vader becoming Darth Vader. Do I think J.J. Abrams will do a good job decreasing the cheesy CGI look we saw in the last three films? Yes. Of course he will, but….Star Trek and Star Wars have been long competing with each other….though Lucas won’t admit it. Speaking of Lucas, I am glad he is not directing the next Star Wars films. I think as he gets older, his film-making gets worse. Yes, you know I am right with this. The cheesy dialouge and all…I don’t think he can write a decent screenplay either. Good thing they also have some one else writing Episode VII.
So J.J. Abrams, we know you like Star Wars….since you mentioned it in interviews while talking about Star Trek!! How does it feel to betray Star Trek? You probably don’t think you are betraying Star Trek, but I can say it sure seems like it. Couldn’t even wait to finish with Star Trek?!?!…ugh.
Lastly, here is some Star Wars advice for J.J. — focus on the story and not the stupid aliens or space ships. Make sure the film doesn’t have a rushed feeling to it. Star Trek (20o9) defintiley felt rushed…slow it down a little with Star Wars. The Star Wars franchise needs more of the epic adventure like Lord of the Rings, not a quick TV show pace. Make sure the story is interesting. We don’t want to be lectured and educated about the characters. Finally, make sure JarJar Binks is not in the film!!! If it’s not good, millions of Star Wars fans are going to hate you. I wouldn’t wish that kind of pressure on any one.
Good luck with your Star Wars.
